Report: Chip Kelly Interested In 49ers' Head Coaching Job

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Chip Kelly could be headed back to the west coast.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Kelly's camp reached out to the San Francisco 49ers expressing interest in their head coaching vacancy.

The 49ers announced the release of head coach Jim Tomsula after their season-finale on Sunday.

Kelly, 52, was linked to 49ers mobile quarterback Colin Kaepernick in trade rumors this past season, who regressed in year five under Tomsula. Kaepernick, 28, is under contract through 2020 with the 49ers, but the team can save about $8.5 million cap dollars in 2016 if they release him.

Kelly was 26-21 in three seasons as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.
