Fletcher Cox On Bill Davis' Future: 'I'm Just Employee No. 91'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles have a game to play against the Giants on Sunday, but there is plenty of focus outside the locker room on the future.

Changes are likely on the horizon after a disappointing 2015 campaign. One of the biggest questions surrounding the 2015 Eagles is what happened to the defense in the second half of the season. After a strong start, the defense collapsed down the stretch and gave up 38 points or more in four out of the last six games. Defensive Coordinator Bill Davis tried to explain what went wrong and what needs to be done going forward.

"The thing that keeps coming back to me is the consistency," said Davis. "When you have the ability to play good defense and you show that, then you know that you do have talent there and you do have coaching and you do have scheme, but the inconsistency part of that is what let us down this year and I'm the first one in line to make sure I've got to get that consistency right."

Some are wondering if Davis will get the chance to fix the defense. The late season struggles have caused some to wonder if a change is coming. When Defensive Lineman Fletcher Cox was asked about Davis' future, his reply was the same several times:

"I'm employee 91," said Cox. "Next question."

When the line of questioning turned to what's wrong with the defense, Cox ended his interview session.

Meanwhile, Malcolm Jenkins also tried to find answers for what went wrong this season and one of the theories involved the number of the snaps the defense is forced to take each game.

"There were games where we didn't tackle well," said Jenkins. "There were games that we didn't cover well. There were games that we didn't take the ball away. We're also playing 80 snaps a game. That's a lot of time on task. Statistically, I don't think you get judged by what the stats say. They're never going to be that great when you're with the offense that we have. It's really about winning games and what we are doing giving us the opportunity to win games."

Regardless of what happens to Davis, the players who are expected to be back know things must change. Jenkins talked about the need for accountability earlier in the season and Brandon Graham believes in the same philosophy as the Eagles look to 2016.

"We all just need to hold ourselves accountable each week," Graham said. "We've got to criticize each other a little more and light the fires under people instead of brushing them under."
