CAMDEN COUNTY (CBS) — Police officers in Camden County took on the role of Santa’s helpers on Sunday as they delivered toys to children of families in need.

Armed with more than 500 donated gifts about a dozen Camden County Police Officers spent their Sunday morning delivering toys to families around the city of Camden.

Lt. Bill Wiley says it’s the second year they’re able to have the toy giveaway.

“Last year was the first year we did it,” Wiley said. “We helped about 25 families, this year we doubled the size. This is something the officers feel is important to continue their bond with the community and to share joy.”

Yairi and her sons Justin and Lenny got a chance to see Santa, hang out with the police officers and get a bag full of gifts.

“It’s very nice that they put a smile on my kid’s faces for Christmas, It makes me feel really happy, very grateful, very grateful,” Yairi said.

Lt. Wiley says this is a Christmas tradition they look to continue every year.
