Pa. High School's Resemblance To The Millennium Falcon: 'It's Really Uncanny'

ALLENTOWN, P.A., (CBS) -- It's hard to find anyone who doesn't know what the Millennium Falcon looks like-- especially the kids at Parkland High School in Allentown.

From the ground, the school may look normal, but from up above, a new perception awakens as the school's shape looks oddly familiar.

"If you look at it, it's really uncanny," said Nicole McGala, Parkland's Director of Community Relations.

"I'm not entirely sure," she explained when asked when the comparison was made.

The designer here isn't Gorge Lucas. Instead it's an architect from Minneapolis and yes, he's a Star Wars fan. However, the design wasn't meant to look like the Millennium Falcon.

"I laughed," Dean Beeninga, the architect who designed the school, said when asked about his reaction to first hearing the comparison.

Beeninga can laugh all he wants, but there's no way it can be denied there is a bizarre similarity.

The architect admits perhaps there was a strange force at work when he developed the design.

"What I like about it is... like a spaceship is designed for efficiency... this school gets kids in the door the fastest with a streamlined design."

"What I like about the design is it's efficient like the spaceship," he said. "It looks pretty streamlined."
