Psychotherapist: Mindfulness Can Help Combat Holiday Stress
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This time of year can make you frantic, frenzied and frazzled.
In the midst of the shopping, wrapping, baking and visiting, your stress level may be soaring.
Psychotherapist and mindfulness coach Donald Altman has three suggestions to get you through the season.
"Knowing the holidays are temporary, increasing your awareness of gratitude, what you're grateful for, and helping and doing something for others, those are three ways to stay sane this time of year," Altman told KYW Newsradio.
Remember to smile, it's hard to be miserable when you're laughing.
And if you feel the tension rising, take few deep belly breaths and let them out slowly.
Altman says even Navy Seals use this technique to gain control.
