Report: Pennsylvanians Drinking Fireball, Jack Daniel's

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Did you have a bad year or a good year? Depends on how you look at a new report from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, which finds we're drinking -- and spending -- more on booze.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has released the top selling items sold this retail year and Fireball and Jack Daniel's top the list.

In exchange for more than $2.2 billion -- nearly $100 million more than the previous year's survey -- Pennsylvanians sipped spirits slightly more than wine. Vodka, flavored and classic, by far the top category.

Bourbon is ranked second. Two whiskeys are more popular than any other alcohol you'll find on state store shelves: the cinnamon-flavored Fireball, and Jack Daniel's.

According to the report, Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, Jack Daniel's Old Number 7 Tennessee Whiskey and Nikolai Vodka were the top three items sold.

Additionally, the report found Fireball has increased its unit sales by more the 88 percent from the previous year.

Jack Daniel's Old Number 7 Tennessee Whiskey had sales of more than $20,000,000, according to the report.

Fireball brought in more than $17,000,000.

As for wines, the report says Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay, Cavit Pinot Grigio  and Woodbridge Chardonnay were the top by unit sales.

The best-selling wine brands: Barefoot and Sutter Home.

Most of the corks (and screw-tops) are removed from American Chardonnay and Cabernet, with 5L box wine just behind.

Delaware County says salute with Italian wine; Philadelphians raise more glasses of Champagne and other sparklers.

If you're looking for a quieter time at Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores, don't go Saturday mornings at 10. The PLCB report, which covers from July 2014 to June of this year, says that's the hour with the most dollar sales.

KYW Newsradio's Ian Bush contributed to this report.
