KYW Medical Reports Sponsored By Independence Blue Cross

By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- We know that plastic surgery is very popular. Especially when you consider that baby boomers are aging and we live in an appearance dominated society.

What may surprise you is that a study has shown there almost a 20 percent increase in a group that hasn't always gone under the knife -- men.

That percentage is expected to only continue to go up and according to researchers, one of the big reasons is men are becoming more comfortable with having the procedures, because plastic surgery is generally becoming more accepted in the eyes of most people in the general public.

Now in case you are interested in what men are asking for, the favorite procedures among male patients are rhinoplasties, liposuction, and hair transplants. Of course, the number of women who are undergoing surgery is also on the rise. The favorite procedures for women: liposuction, breast augmentation, and eyelid surgery. It seems the more we can do, the more we want to get done.
