Kane Turns To Former Maryland AG To Investigate "Porngate"

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  NSFW is a common warning for photos that are Not Safe For Work; exactly the type of images shown to a group of largely media, on a theater-sized screen inside of the National Constitution Center Tuesday afternoon.

"The images depicted women in X-rated situations, character-ed images of African American babies and mocked gay men," said Krishna Rami, speaking on behalf of the National Organization for Women's Philadelphia chapter.

The photos are additional crude examples made available by the office of Attorney General Kathleen Kane of what top state officials are accused of sending each other on taxpayer time and dime.

"They are viewed on state taxpayer-owned computers and sent over state servers, government servers and during work hours," said Kane.

Maryland's former Attorney General Doug Gansler was announced as an independent special investigator into what has become commonly known as "PornGate" and more recently by Kane as, "HateGate" due to many racially demeaning photos.

Gansler spoke to questions regarding Kane's ability to appoint such a special task force given the suspension of her Law License that went into effect at the end of October.

"The appointment of a special investigator is by definition not practicing law because she is saying 'You guys are practicing law. I am doing my administrative function'," he said.

Opponents see the sporadic release of emails as a distraction technique by Kane as she faces charges including felony perjury, alternatively Kane has held strong in her beliefs that efforts to remove her from office are being led by those involved in PornGate, as a way to keep her quiet.

Quiet she was Tuesday, despite advertising a Press Conference, Kane bypassed all questions from the Press - opting instead on reading another pre-written message:

"To those who challenge this including members of my own staff, I pose a simple three prong question;  Are you a white male? Are you or one of your buddies in this email network? Are you trying to get my job without the benefit of having to run for it?"
