From Thanksgiving Dinner To Early Black Friday Shopping For Many

By Kristen Johanson, Greg Argos

WILLOW GROVE, Pa. (CBS) – They ate, they saw, they came…to the malls that is.

After feasting on the turkey, shoppers at the Willow Grove Park Mall in Montgomery County rushed to gobble up the deals.

Stuffed with Thanksgiving dinner, shoppers flocked to the stores in search of the perfect pre-Black Friday deal, some with families in tow — like Ralph.

"Family got together, shared moments and memories," he tells KYW Newsradio. "I decided to meet up with my sister and come down to the mall."

Joanne was one of many bargain hunters in Willow Grove in search of the perfect holiday gift. And, she says, to indulge in the deals herself:

"I'm looking for a coat, so I figured I would be one of the first ones to come out."

This is her first Thanksgiving shopping experience, but she figured it was a good way to kill two birds with one stone:

"I was visiting family, but Thanksgiving's over, so I am ready to walk off the meal."

In South Philadelphia, hundreds of people waited to get into the Target store. Nadiya Jackson was hoping to get her hands on a 55 inch TV:

"I Think it's exciting," she tells CBS 3 Eyewitness News. "If it's something that you want and it's worth it, why not?"

In New Jersey, the Cherry Hill Mall opened at 6 p.m. with crowds growing throughout the night. But shoppers like Lauren Benns tell CBS 3 they weren't too bad:

"It's actually kind of smaller than I thought they would be. We found parking pretty easy and the lines weren't too long."

While Thanksgiving night and Black Friday are, of course, big shopping days, experts are saying Cyber Monday could be even bigger.
