Hear Philly: Please Touch Museum Kicks Off Holiday Season With Gift Of Giving Week

By Keith Anderson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The holiday season is upon us and the Please Touch Museum will be hosting a week-long event to kick off its season of celebration.

The Gift of Giving Week gives kids who visit the Please Touch Museum a chance to learn the importance of generosity and kindness, while also finding something that interests them to get in the spirit of the holiday season.

"We've got all kinds of activities planned where children can start thinking about if they're going to give a gift to someone," says Lynn McMaster, CEO and President of the Please Touch Museum.

One of those activities will be a new theater production, How The Sun Was Returned to the Sky. It's an old-fashioned story that teaches the lesson of sharing and generosity.

"Story telling is of course a very important part of this time of year," McMaster says. "It's when many cultures take the time to read stories around the home when going out is not as easy."

Visitors will also be able to make a snowflake and learn about the science behind snow and the signs of winter in nature.

"One of the things that is fun to do is when people come collectively to want to share their thoughts or express some of their experiences about what it means to give at this time of year," McMaster says, "and how important this time of year is for them working collectively on art activities is always a really pleasurable activity to do and it's also very impactful."

McMaster encourages families to come out and experience what the museum has to offer during this week.

"I think this is a place certainly at the Please Touch Museum that offers an opportunity for families to do that together and create memories, find opportunities where they can create a tradition," she says.

The Gift of Giving week will run from November 24 until November 30. All activities are included in the price of general admission at the Please Touch Museum.
