48 Children In Camden County Officially Adopted- On National Adoption Day!

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) --  It is National Adoption Day and families from our region celebrated the occasion in Camden by crossing the finish line of the adoption process.

48 children, between the ages of 7 months and 17 years, had their adoptions finalized Friday.

The families gathered at a special luncheon to celebrate the end of the sometimes lengthy adoption process.

For Dru Genther, today means his family is complete. "We have three biological boys. We've always wanted that girl," Genther told Eyewitness News. "We're finally able to adopt our little girl we've been fostering for two and a half years and make her a permanent part of our family."

And while today's event brought nearly 50 children to their forever homes, Camden County Surrogate-elect Michelle Gentek-Mayer would like to see more days like this.

"What we want to see is not only have adoption day be that many, but to have every day have that many. So that every child has a home," she said.

8-year-old Kayla and 9-year Briana, who both have a future in broadcasting, know today is a special day indeed!

"I get to live with my grandparents forever and I love them a lot and I love my sister too," Kayla Finley proudly said.
