Miss Fancy Brigade Drag Queens Prep For 4th Year In Mummers Parade

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Miss Fancy Brigade drag queens plan to strut with the Mummers for the 4th year in a row.

Ian Morrison, aka Drag Queen Britney Lynn, admits while excited to be invited to strut four years ago, he was concerned about his safety participating in the Mummers parade.

"The first year that we did it, I was petrified."

But he says he and the other drag queens were easily accepted by the other mummers, who asked for advice on hair and makeup in exchange for a free for all through their sequin and feather filled costume closets. This upcoming parade, for the 3rd time in a row, will be led by the drag queens.

"I would like to challenge Philadelphians to come out as early as possible to catch us in the beginning because we're really marching at like 8:00 in the morning so sometimes the streets are a little dead."

And what's Morrison's favorite part about being part of the mummers parade?"

"Actually, it's the acceptance we get from the city. I get teary eyed every time I think about it, but I tell these queens this is such an honor."

Their theme this year is carnival and they will be incorporating acrobats.

"So just be ready. It's going to be amazing and gay!"
