Knee-Jerk Reactions: The Worst Kind Of Eagles Loss
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If I were to classify this game in one word, I would call it drunk.
It started off so fun for Eagles fans and then kaboom. It just blew up in our faces.
• You can't win a game when: Your QB gets hurt, you miss a 32-yard FG, you allow a blocked punt, you force takeaways, you lose the turnover battle, and you tip a ball that goes 30 feet up in the air which lands into the hands of your opponent for a touchdown.
• That's sickening.
• Sam Bradford.
• He had an excellent first quarter: 7-8, 106 yards, 1 TD
• In fact, he had a great first half: 16-20, 196 yards, 1 TD
• But then, the worst happened: Bradford suffered a left-shoulder injury (X-rays negative) and a concussion.
• Enter Mark Sanchez.
• Sanchez was 14-23 for 156 yards, 0 TD's, and one very, very, very costly INT.
• Sanchez actually had the Eagles' offensive moving.
• With 6:27 left in the game down 20-19, the Eagles got the ball from the 50.
• Sanchez drove them to the 9-yard line. Worst case, you would think, the Eagles take a 22-20 lead on a FG.
• But Sanchez threw an interception on a pass intended for Miles Austin, who had an atrocious game.
• Austin wasn't open and the decision by Sanchez to throw that ball was embarrassing, but Austin didn't help either.
• The run game?
• DeMarco Murray had 61 yards on 20 carries, Ryan Mathews, who left the game with a concussion, had 18 yards on eight carries, and Darren Sproles had 3 carries for 0 yards.
• The offensive line was putrid.
• Jason Kelce said it was the "worst game of my entire life."
• Zach Ertz had seven catches on 10 targets for 68 yards, but had a TD catch taken back due to an illegal shift by, you guessed it, Riley Cooper (who had 0 catches).
• After the game Ertz, who has yet to find the end zone this season, said, "I don't call the plays in the red zone."
• Defensively, the Eagles played well for the most part, allowing just 289 total yards.
• However, entering the game with 20 takeaways (2nd in NFL), they had none vs. the Dolphins.
• Malcolm Jenkins led the team with 10 tackles and continues to be the leader of the team
• Mychal Kendricks, after a shaky start to the game, had a big sack. He finished with six tackles.
• The Eagles had four sacks and a safety.
• Sure, the division keeps them alive, but it's nearly impossible to have faith in this team after that loss. It was as devastating as they come.
