Kelce 'Would Probably' Play Through Concussion, Like Jenkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Concussions are a hot-button issue in the NFL.

And after Malcolm Jenkins told reporters that he played through a second quarter concussion last Sunday, hiding it from team doctors, it's currently a hot-button issue in Philadelphia.

Jenkins' teammate, Jason Kelce, talked about the situation on Friday with Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show.

"Unless I'm unconscious on the field or to a point where I'm not able to do my job, there's no doubt that I would probably stay in," Kelce said, defending Jenkins' decision to stay in the game.

Kelce admitted even though Jenkins is in the wrong for concealing his head injury, his decision only gained respect from his teammates.

"Whenever somebody fights through an injury or fights through a concussion, right or wrong, you always respect that guy," Kelce explained. "Because they're fighting through something--whether it's physical, mental, or in this case a concussion which is a little bit of both. They're putting their self at risk. With all the evidence that has come out the last few years on concussions and stuff like that, there's a bigger emphasis put on that throughout the league to get guys like that out of games. Obviously Sean Lee had to come out of the game for the Dallas Cowboys.

"Unless somebody physically takes you out of the game, that's just the way these guys are wired," Kelce continued. "And that's one of the reasons why Malcolm Jenkins is such a good player and such a competitor. Even though he's wrong that he stayed in the game, that's why he's such a good player.
