Knee-Jerk Reactions: Eagles All But End Cowboys' Season, Save Theirs, In Walk-Off Fashion

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- What if I told you the Eagles would beat the Cowboys, in Dallas on Sunday Night Football, in Week 9 to get within a half game of the division lead and all but end the Cowboys' season in walk-off fashion?

Is that something you might be interested in?

  • I'm hard pressed to find many, if any, negatives.
  • That was a horrendously officiated, excruciatingly painful roller-coaster dog fight between two divisional rivals.
  • It's a win that saved the Eagles' season, gives them (and us) hope going forward, and for all intents and purposes should end the Cowboys' season.
  • The Eagles are now 3-0 in pseudo "must-wins" this year (vs. Jets, Saints, Cowboys).
  • That, my friends, is a springboard win.

Sam Bradford

  • 25-36, 295, 1 TD, 0 turnovers, 1 sack
  • Clutch throw after clutch throw, leading scoring drives each and every time the Eagles' needed it.
  • Right before Bradford threw the game-winning walk-off TD to Jordan Matthews, do you know what he said?
  • "Hey, I'm coming to you. Win right here."
  • Hey Sam, welcome to Philadelphia. You earned our respect last night.

Jordan Matthews

  • Nine catches, 133 yards, a walk-off touchdown and most importantly...0 drops.
  • Bradford on Matthews this week, after the win: "I don't know if I've seen anyone work as hard as he did. And it paid off tonight. He played great. That last play, you can't say enough about the route and the finish afterward."
  • Matthews needed confidence heading down the stretch of the season, and boy, did he get some last night.

DeMarco Murray

  • 161 total yards on 24 touches. Bull-dozing, hard-nosed running. Impressive and encouraging to see.

The Offensive Line

  • Wow, what can you say?
  • One sack allowed, 172 rushing yards gained.
  • Lane Johnson moves over to left-tackle and fills in for Jason Peters beautifully.
  • After a slightly slow start, Jason Kelce had an excellent game, especially in the ground-attack.
  • Dennis Kelly answered the bell too, when the Cowboys had Greg Hardy switch sides.
  • Outstanding game by this unit.

The Defense

  • Jordan Hicks (bow down to the rookie).
  • What a stud this kid is.
  • 7 tackles, a pass deflection, and a pick six.
  • Praying his injury (MRI on Monday) isn't too serious.
  • Byron Maxwell had an very solid game, as the Cowboys were clearly attacking Nolan Carroll intentionally.
  • Two insane phantom PI calls on Maxwell late in the game helped the Cowboys force overtime, but those calls were horrendous.
  • Mychal Kendricks had an up-and-down game. Some bad angles he took to miss tackles, but he did have some big plays, including a sack.
  • Brandon Graham was the Eagles' second best defensive player, behind Hicks.
  • Graham had two sack-fumbles, but unfortunately, the Eagles did not recover either of them.

Caleb Sturgis

Chip Kelly

  • SHHHHH. What's that sound?
  • It's the CHIP SHIP!
  • A lot of Twitter jokes about Chip coming off the bye week after the slow start, but what is that old saying? He who laughs last, laughs loudest.
  • TWO 4th-and-1 SHOTGUN run, conversions.
  • One to DeMarco Murray in the 2Q from the one-yard line to tie the game at 7...
  • ...the other, to Ryan Mathews from the DAL 43-yard line in OT with the game on the line!
  • So go cry about your shotgun runs, Philadelphia! Chip doesn't care. He does what he does.

Looking Ahead

  • Next 8 games: 5 home, 3 away
  • Next 3 games: MIA (at 1:00pm!), TB, at Det
  • Final game of the season: at NYG
  • GO AND GET THIS DIVISION.
