Study: Drivers Remain Distracted Up To 27 Seconds After Using Hands-Free Device

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – When driving, it may not just be cell phones distracting motorists, according to a study released by AAA.

The study says it takes drivers up to 27 seconds to return to full attention after using a hands-free device to make a call, turn on the radio or perform another task.

Researchers found that practice with the systems does not help either.

Additionally, the study found older drivers took longer to pay attention than younger drivers.
