PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Presidential candidate Ben Carson addressed the problem of mass shootings in an interview with Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, saying that the solution should not infringe upon the 2nd Amendment.

Carson said there must be ways to prevent these shootings without disarming law abiding citizens.

“There shouldn’t be a battle over the 2nd Amendment. I believe that it would be most reasonable to say, yes we see these tragedies that occur with guns and people using them in an inappropriate manner and, obviously, we should be concerned about that, so let’s sit down and let’s talk about reasonable ways to prevent this from happening without infringing on our 2nd Amendment rights. That’s what intelligent people do.”

He stated that he believes shooters know to target areas where they won’t be met with armed resistance.

“Logic and common sense is something that seems to have escaped many people. In fact, when you look at some of these gun tragedies that have occurred, it’s quite amazing how they seem to occur in the gun free zones. A lot of these shooters are people who are mentally unstable, but they’re not so unstable that they don’t recognize that, if I’m going to kill a lot of people, I need to go to a place where people are not likely to have guns and kill me.”

Carson also weighed in on the controversy created by Donald Trump over the weekend, blaming George Bush for the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

“That’s absurd. It serves no useful purpose to sit there and blame him. He’d been in office for eight months. The previous administration had a whole lot more to do with the setup than he did. I don’t see any reason to sit around and point fingers. We get too caught up in that, rather than spending our time and energy working on the solutions.”
