Billy Davis: Brian Billick 'Trying To Get Ratings' With Eagles 'Powder Keg' Comment

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Former Super Bowl champion winning head coach and well-respected NFL broadcaster, Brian Billick, took aim at the Philadelphia Eagles after their 1-3 on a "Move the Sticks" podcast this week.

Specifically, Billick called the Eagles a "powder keg ready to blow up" stating that even when the team was 10-6 the previous two seasons under Chip Kelly, "the players aren't real fond of the way they do business and the way they practice."

Billick went as far as to say some of the Eagles' players "feel they're being treated like college players."

Eagles defensive coordinator Billy Davis, who has been coaching in the NFL for 23 years, took exception to Billick's remarks about dissension in the Eagles' locker room.

"I think it's called trying to get ratings from Coach Billick," Davis told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Wednesday. "And he's been in a war zone, he's no longer in it, but when you're inside nobody outside the building can make any kind of intelligent statement about what's happening inside the building. And he is outside of the building. He's got expertise, he's had a long career, but I couldn't disagree with him more. There is no signs of that whatsoever in this building.

"Matter of fact, I think the resilience and the mental toughness that this group is showing behind the scenes is going to get us out of this hole."

Davis emphatically went the other way, stating his team has exactly the right players to overcome their early season struggles.

"You're 1-3, absolutely everything is questioned. Doubt starts creeping in, from the outside in first," Davis said. "The one thing I am very encouraged about is I've been through 1-3, 3-1, 4-1, 0-4---what you look hard at is how are the men responding inside of the building. The ones that responsible and the ones that can control getting out of the hole we dug. And I can tell you, we have the absolute right men in this building. Nobody's turning, nobody's questioning, the guys are hanging in there. We've got the right group of men. We haven't won games. This is a win business period. Nothing else matters. No words can make anything right or wrong, it's about winning games. And right now we just---from inside this building---have to win the games. We've got to find ways to win the game and that's the bottom line. And all the doubt and the questions, which are legitimate, will stop creeping in."

Brian Billick joins the 94WIP Morning Show every Thursday morning at 7:45am. You can hear him on 94.1 WIP and online here.
