West Chester Looks For Third Straight Win Saturday At Lock Haven

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Division II West Chester University Golden Rams will look for a third straight victory on Saturday when they visit Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

West Chester evened its record at 2-2 last week (1-0 in the PSAC) as they overwhelmed a struggling Millersville team on the road, 48-3.

"It was a good, solid win," West Chester head coach Bill Zwaan tells KYW Newsradio. "We improved in some of the areas that we need to keep improving in. We also got some young guys in the game. Couple of them got to run the ball some, some got to play on defense. Because we're young, we're still evaluating some of those young guys to see how much more playing time they may start getting. So that was a good game from that standpoint."

Sophomore quarterback Pat Moriarty led the offense against Millersville with three touchdown passes.

Lock Haven comes into this game 0-4, but they have probably played better than that record indicates. Last week, they nearly pulled off an upset against East Stroudsburg before falling just short, 37-34.

"They had East Stroudsburg on the ropes and never quit in that game," Zwaan says. "I think they missed a field goal late or else they would've tied the game. They're 0-4, but they've played some decent opponents and they've played them all tough."

So Zwaan is expecting the Bald Eagles to bring their "A" game against his team.

"It's a new coach," Zwaan says. "They're trying to present a new face and a new attitude in the program. So they have a lot of kids playing really hard and they're not going to quit. So you've got to go up there and play your game and beat these guys. The one thing you worry about obviously, as a team, is the players looking at an 0-4 record and think they're going to go up there and have an easy time of it. We're certainly not going to have that. Lock Haven's going to give us a tough time and the weather's going to be a little bit unpredictable, so we've really got to be prepared to go up there and play our best game."

West Chester beat Lock Haven last season, 41-16.

Saturday's game will kickoff at noon.
