Emotional Crowd Waits Hours To See The Pope On The Parkway

By Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Thousands of people from all over the world lined the streets of the Ben Franklin Parkway Saturday night, waiting for Pope Francis to arrive.

People waited hours just to catch a glimpse of the Pontiff. For one Delaware County woman it was worth the wait.

"I don't think we could get any closer to God right now," she tells KYW Newsradio.

She waited for over four hours -- often singing, dancing to "We Are Family" and chanting "Pope Francis," but sight of the Holy Father moved her to tears:

"It's just so special. It's history in the making and he just cares about people like us, and I lost my mom in December and I know my mom is here with me."

She was not the only one with water in her eyes. Many people on the Parkway were moved to tears simply by the sight of the Pope.
