Cardinal's Keynote At WMOF Says A Strong Family Can Help Goodness Triumph

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Delegates to the World Meeting of Families today heard about the importance of keeping the traditional family strong.

Cardinal Robert Sarah, the head of the Vatican's office for the charitable intentions of the Holy Father, told several thousand delegates at a morning keynote that the family is the center of faith and good works. He denounced abortion and gay marriage as eroding the family.

"Laws are passed that fuel this breaking down from those favoring killing innocent life in the womb, to new forms of union, to euthanasia."

The Cardinal's keynote was well received here, drawing applause several times.
