Local Leaders Show Off Acting Skills To Highlight School Funding In PA

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) Local leaders joined the cast of the drama School Play at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre Wednesday evening in an effort to highlight unfair school funding.

Arden Kass is one of the co-creators of School Play.

She says the drama consists of verbatim interviews they did with 100 Pennsylvanians involved in the education system.

"School Play is about telling the stories behind the numbers and political arguments that we hear on the radio and that we see in the newspaper and making it relatable to more people by telling real stories." says Kass.

Philadelphia School Superintendent Dr. William Hite was one of the local leaders to show off his acting chops Wednesday night.

"Advocacy around getting additional monies for public schools across the common wealth I think is really important thing that we hope to convey with this performance."

Philadelphia councilwoman Blondell Reynolds-Brown also took part in the play

"My script talks about how a troubled young man was inspired by a teacher who saw that he had something more in him if his anger was channeled." says Brown. "He went on to become a fabulous actor."
