Montco DA's Office, County Controller Team Up To Fight Fraud In Youth Sports

By Jim Melwert

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- The Montgomery County District Attorney's office and the county controller's office are holding a series of presentations aimed at preventing fraud in youth sports organizations.

The one-hour programs are open to the public, with a goal of showing organizations how to create checks and balances or internal controls to prevent theft or fraudulent activities for youth sports or other similar organizations.

Bernadette Vereb with the Montgomery County Controller's office says the program tries to point out some of the typical weaknesses volunteers use to embezzle money.

"We offer internal tools to help assist the organization to protect the funds for the organizational mission," Vereb says, "as opposed to lining someone's pocket."

Below is a list of dates and locations for each program, all beginning at 8pm.

  • Tuesday, September 8 at the West Pottsgrove Township Building.
  • Wednesday, September 9 at the Gladwyne VFW, Next
  • Monday, September 14 at the Lower Moreland Community Hall,
  • Tuesday, September 15 at the Lower Gwynedd Township Building
  • Wednesday, September 16 at the West Norriton Township Building
  • Monday September 21 at the Limerick Township Building.
