Wolf Officials: Pa. Medicaid Expansion Transition Complete

By Tony Romeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Wolf administration says it has completed the transition from former Governor Corbett's Healthy PA program to an expanded, traditional Medicaid program.

Governor Tom Wolf began the transition from Healthy PA to Medicaid in phases starting in late April.

Ted Dallas, secretary of the Department of Human Services, says the last phase of the transition began in late July, when the last remaining individuals enrolled in private health coverage under Healthy PA were transferred… and he declares Healthy PA "closed:"

"So all those folks were on bridge Medicaid coverage in the interim, and now they're fully enrolled in the Medicaid expansion. With that last group of folks moving over, the Medicaid expansion is now complete. It represents a lot of hard work by folks."

Dallas says the transition to Medicaid brings an infusion of federal dollars and a savings of state funds. He says the state's health care system has been able to handle the influx of new patients added through Medicaid expansion.
