WEATHER: Hottest Day of the Year; More Heat To Come?

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia hit 96° yesterday, the hottest day of the entire year! We had previously had a five-way tie of 95 degree days, but Thursday eclipsed them all by 1 degree. So will the heat be sticking around?

Nope, That won't be the case on Friday. Although the day is starting off mild and muggy, the passage of a weak cold front through the day will trigger a few showers and thunderstorms, and consequently bring down the heat and humidity.

As a result, Labor Day weekend will feature some fantastic weather! Saturday will be a winner, with mostly sunny skies, low humidity, and slightly above average temperatures. The remainder of the holiday weekend remains sunny too, but the heat and humidity will increase a bit each day, approaching 90° once again by Labor Day. If you are planning to get one last beach day in for the summer, Sunday and Monday get the seal of approval as the best days for it!

By next Wednesday, we could hit a sixth heat of 2015.

Have a great holiday weekend!
