Preseason Week 4: Eagles Studs And Duds
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- No! They lost a game!
The Eagles lost their all-important (sarcastic) final preseason game 24-18 to the Jets on Thursday night. All eyes were on the third string quarterback battle between Matt Barkley and Tim Tebow, and while Tebow certainly out played Barkley, was it enough to earn himself a roster spot?
Duds
3. Kiko Alonso
It was his first game action since 2013 and he didn't play much at all, but I wanted one impactful play. Just one. What? He had a hashtag #TheLegendOfKiko in Buffalo! I'm excited.
2. Eric Rowe
I've been weary of Rowe ever since preseason game one, after he punched the ball loose and everyone fell in love with him. To be honest, Rowe has been shaky in coverage all summer long and Thursday night was arguably his worst night. Granted, he's still learning, but if he can't play right away the Eagles may find themselves in trouble at corner quickly.
1. Matt Barkley
The only way Tim Tebow had a shot to beat out Barkley for the third string quarterback job is for Barkley to play the way he did on Thursday night. The second throw of the game, intended for Josh Huff---you know, the one that was brutally under-thrown---was one of the worst throws I've seen in awhile. Barkley finished 4-9 for 50 yards and that interception. Yuck.
Studs
3. Rasheed Bailey
The Roxborough/Del Val kid everyone loves probably won't make the roster, but he sure as heck had a good camp. He can play football in this league and he proved it. On Thursday, Bailey caught an 18-yard touchdown on an excellent back-shoulder throw from Tim Tebow. Bailey finished with two catches for 30 yards.
2. Raheem Mostert
No team is more talented at running back from top to bottom. The Eagles' fifth running back, Raheem Mostert, was superb on Thursday running 15 times for 69 yards (4.6 ypc) and he caught eight balls for 93 more yards. That's 23 touches for 162 yards on offense, plus three kick returns for 77 yards on special teams.
The dude can play. Unfortunately for him, the Eagles are stacked at running back.
1. Tim Tebow
Who else? In 39 snaps at QB compared to Barkley's 18, Tebow went 11-17 for 189 yards, two touchdowns, an interception, and four rushes for 32 yards. Not sure it will be enough for the Eagles to keep him over Barkley, but Tebow made it closer than many expected.
