Summer Vacation Over, Back To School This Week For Many Students

By Tim Jimenez

Bensalem, Pa. (CBS) -- The calendar hasn't hit September yet but it's the first day of school for many districts in our area.

The crossing guard blocking traffic, the kids, backpack on, hand in hand with mom and dad.

It's the first day of school for places like Benjamin Rush Elementary in Bensalem.  Principal Ken Nepaver greeted parents and students.

"Very high energy with the staff and students and everyone excited to be here." said Nepaver.

A day for a fresh start. Like for newly minted second grader Steven.

"We get to see new stuff in our new grades and a new teacher."

A lot of new but can't forget about the familiar faces.

"And also some old friends too."

And for Steven's sister Sandra, it's the first day of fifth grade.

"I'm excited to see what's coming and I'm nervous about how hard it'll be and all that." said Sandra.

But what wasn't hard, according to Steven and Samdra's mom, because or the energy and nerves, was waking them up and getting them ready for the first day.
