Chip Kelly: Tim Tebow Continues To Improve

By Joseph Santoliquito

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — When Chip Kelly isn't coaching the Eagles, he serves a dual role as "Quarterback Whisperer," and perhaps one of his biggest challenges is getting Tim Tebow ready. On Monday, Kelly said the former Heisman Trophy winner has improved in the short time he's been an Eagle.

Tebow will be competing with Matt Barkley for the Eagles' third-quarterback job this Thursday when the Eagles close their preseason against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. One of the areas some believed Tebow would fulfill when he came to the Eagles, was a two-point conversion specialist, even though Kelly has stated in the past he wouldn't use Tebow in a gadget play. Yet that's how Kelly used him in the Eagles' 39-26 preseason win at Green Bay.

It didn't go too well.

Tebow was stuffed on the Eagles first attempt at two, and on the second, he tried to hit rookie Nelson Agholor on a quick slant, which was almost intercepted by Green Bay cornerback Casey Hayward. Tebow was 2-of-2 for 15 yards and rushed for 4 yards on three attempts in limited action.

Still, Kelly feels Tebow is getting better.

"I've seen Tim improve since he's got here," Kelly said. "Improved in his throwing motion, improved since we got him in April. I think he's worked very hard at that, sequencing his throwing motion, so I think he's been more accurate with his passes. He's had a good camp. He has another big week this week. The guys that are playing against the Jets will have big weeks. I anticipate him working real hard like he always does."

In three preseason games, Tebow has completed 10 of 19 passes for 97 yards and scored one touchdown rushing.
