Authorities: 3 Pedestrians Struck In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) — Police say a woman and her two children were injured after they were struck by a vehicle on U.S. Route 9 in Ocean County.

Sgt. Leroy Marshall says the Lakewood crash was reported around 10 p.m. Monday.

Witness Yehuda Jacob told the Asbury Park Press that a woman was pushing her children in a carriage across the intersection of U.S. Route 9 and Edgewood Court when the collision occurred.

Jacob says emergency responders put the children on backboards and supplied them with oxygen.

Police say the extent of the victims' injuries is unknown. The two children were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Lakewood Police say the two children are currently in surgery and there is no word on their condition.

Authorities say their mother is recovering from her injuries and "doing better."

A Lincoln Towncar was towed from the scene at about 12:30 a.m.

It's not known if the driver was charged.
