Protesters Gather Nationally, Locally To Oppose Planned Parenthood Clinics

By Alexandria Hoff, Kristen Johanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Across the country, protesters gathered in front of Planned Parenthood clinics to show their opposition of the organization's procedures, including in Center City Philadelphia.

Videos released in July of Planned Parenthood officials discussing the harvest and sale of baby organs sparked the nationwide protest, including the one Saturday at 12th and Locust Streets.

"The things that are coming out now are gruesome and they are attracting a whole different part of the public that has been desensitized to abortion," says protester Patrick.

"It doesn't even matter to me about profit, it matters to me what they are doing to this human being," adds protester Regina.

In a statement to CBS Philly, the organization responded:

"Planned Parenthood is here for our patients, no matter what. These protests are aimed at intimidating the many patients who seek basic healthcare services from Planned Parenthood, including family planning, birth control and testing and treatment for STI's. Women should be able to get healthcare without fear of violence, harassment or intimidation.  If these protesters were really committed to reducing unintended pregnancies, they would work with us to increase access to affordable birth control. For the women, men and young people we serve, the care we provide isn't about politics - it's about their well-being, and we remain focused on ensuring our patients are able to have access to the healthcare we provide in a safe and caring environment."
