PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Israeli Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer spoke out against the Iranian nuclear deal and questioned whether the safeguards in place are adequate enough to keep Iran from developing a weapon in the future.
Dermer told Chris Stigall on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that he thinks this agreement furthers the Iranian plan to procure the bomb.
“This deal does not block Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon. It actually paves it, and that’s if Iran complies with the deal because it will mean is it will only delays it for a few years. Then Iran will not have to sneak in or break in to the nuclear club, they can just walk in to the nuclear club.”
He stated there is plenty of opposition in Congress, including from two prominent Democrats.
“What I’ve seen in Congress in my meetings with dozens of Senators and Congressman is real bipartisan skepticism toward this deal. You saw that reflected in Senator [Chuck] Schumer’s (D-NY) response and his announcement and you saw that reflected in Senator Mendendez’ announcement. I would say, not only is he one of the biggest critics, Senator Menendez, he actually is one of the most knowledgeable Senators around the whole Iran nuclear issue. I think if people want to educate themselves, they should read the speech that the Senator gave.”
Dermer pointed out what he believes are major flaws with the pact and called on Congress to deny its passage.
“Iran is apparently going to be allowed to provide their own samples to the international inspectors to verify that they haven’t been cheating in the past. How ridiculous is that? Imagine an athlete that was suspended for taking drugs being allowed now, moving forward, to provide his own urine samples to the sports league. That’s what you have here in this deal with Iran. It’s a farce and another reason why this deal should be rejected.”
