Mayor Nutter Addresses How Businesses Will Cope With The Pope's Visit

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Businesses within the so-called "traffic box" have been concerned about how they'll operate within all the transportation limits and access restrictions during the Pope's visit.

Mayor Nutter said the City Commerce Department has developed an online "business resource center" just for the Pope's visit that will be on the city website beginning Monday.

"There will be information, maps, and a Q&A document that attempts to answer many of the questions local business owners have been asking."

There will also be a phone help line, which goes active at noon on Monday, and will operate 9am-5pm daily. There will be an email address for specific questions on the site.

But the mayor says local businesses already cope with disruptions to transportation and access every time there's a big snow.

"We will benefit tremendously from their own experience." said Nutter.

Much as he's asked residents to stock up before the weekend of the Pope's visit, he's asking businesses to get deliveries in by that Friday, though he says there will be back up.

"We're asking businesses to be very smart, plan ahead but we'll also have limited delivery capability."

The mayor says some issues such as trash pick-up and special delivery arrangements are still in the works.
