Governor Wolf Slams Republican Lawmakers For Impasse On State Budget

By Mark Abrams

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf used a stop in Norristown, Montgomery County Tuesday to slam Republicans in the state legislature for creating what he calls a budget crisis for the state and failing to work with him to resolve it.

Governor Wolf appeared with Montgomery County Commissioner Chairman Josh Shapiro to talk about the budget impasse with lawmakers. He criticized them for adopting what he labeled a "sham" spending plan balanced through the use of "smoke and mirrors."

"It's not only a disgrace," Wolf said, "but it's an insult to all of us in Pennsylvania who actually relied and continue to rely on our representatives in Harrisburg to actually be stewards of our financial house."

Wolf claimed he has made concessions on some of his tax plans, especially those related to his proposed tax on natural gas drillers. But the governor said Republican leaders have been unwilling to move on their positions.

Both sides are expected to meet again behind closed doors on Wednesday.
