Eagles Hold Second Open Practice

By Ed Benkin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Eagles will play their first preseason game in one week.  Sunday's practice at the Linc was the perfect way to prepare.

For the second time during training camp, the Eagles held an open practice at Lincoln Financial Field.  It will be their last open practice of the summer and their final appearance at the Linc until the preseason gets underway.  For players such as Defensive Lineman Bennie Logan, it was a chance to soak in the atmosphere with over 43,000 fans in attendance.

"It was great," he said.  "The fans do a fantastic job every time that we're around.  Just seeing the fans come out here in training camp shows how much love and passion they have for the game."

For players trying to land a roster spot, practicing at the Linc provided motivation to achieve their ultimate goal.  For starters such as Lane Johnson, it was the chance for an intense workout while letting the younger players experience what it's like to take the field at the Linc.

"We're trying to get consistency with all three groups," Johnson said.  "It gets some of the young guys a kind of feeling out here with some of the fans, and it has a good game day feel.  It kind of gets them as close to the experience as it can."

The fans who came out to the Linc are used to seeing what the team looks like on game day.  Logan appreciates the support of the fans, and is happy to give them a taste of what an Eagles work week is like when it comes to game preparation.

"It gives us the chance to show the fans what we do on a daily basis," he said.  "We appreciate their love and support every day for them to come out here not just on game day, but just to practice and let them see the work we put in during the week to have success on Sundays."

The preseason kicks off next Sunday when the Eagles take on the Colts.  After another preseason home game on August 22nd, the Eagles won't be home until September 20th when they host the Cowboys.  Johnson and the rest of the players were glad to get the opportunity to work on their home field before the start of the season.

"It felt like game day coming out of the tunnel," Johnson said.  "The adrenaline was pumping, so it felt good."

The Eagles will have a day off on Monday from training camp and will resume workouts on Tuesday.
