By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Independence Visitor Center celebrated a milestone number of visitors Thursday.

The Visitor Center in Center City celebrated 30 million visitors since opening in 2001. President and CEO James Cuorato says that's quite an accomplishment.

"Our numbers have grown over the years," Cuorato says. "When we started off in your 1 we had 1 million visitors, and we have grown to the point where we now average 2 1/2 million visitors per year."

Cuorato says staff members collectively speak 9 languages. But he says the visitor center isn't the only for international travelers. He says they get a fair amount of locals who come in for information on hosting their out-of-town guests.

"We give out information on everything in the region," Cuorato says. "We sell tickets to 65 different attractions in the region. We give out tickets to free films that are historically seemed. We have a number of different tours, everything from walking tours to segways."
