Fishtown Guitar Shop Making Vibrations All Over The World

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A guitar shop in Fishtown is making vibrations all over the world.

One of a kind designs are making their way into the hands of some of the biggest names in rock.

DiPinto's in the 400 block of Girard Avenue appears to be your normal mom and pop guitar shop.

But with closer look and listen, you know it's not.

Playing one of his retro looking finely tuned instruments, owner 46-year-old Chris DiPinto or Chris the Pinto when performing in his glam rock band "Creem Circus"  has been designing and selling guitars for 20 years with a celebrity clientele list from all over the globe.

"Making a guitar for David Bowie was really exciting, I have to say that making a guitar for Jimmy Vivino from the Conan O'Brien show, I tuned in every night and he would be pulling out another DiPinto guitar and this is a guy who has a collection of fabulous, $10,000 guitars, and he's pulling out the DiPinto. It's such an exciting thing to see your guitar on TV. And of course Jack White from The White Stripes is really exciting too," said DiPinto.

Most of the guitars, not all, are manufactured in South Korea and finishing touches are done in Philadelphia in the DiPinto's work shop.

Guitar Players magazine named DiPinto's Galaxie 4 Deluxe model "Editor's Pick" for August.

DiPinto's is open six days a week.  It's most popular guitar sells under $800.
