Settlement Will Preserve Cherry Hill Golf Course

CHERRY HILL, NJ (CBS) -- An out-of-court settlement will keep a Cherry Hill golf course as open space.
The owners of the Woodcrest Country Club wanted to build 800 homes on the site, and sued when the township put up a fight.
Cherry Hill Mayor Chuck Cahn says they worked out a deal on that issue.
"We preserved 165 acres of open space, green space that is environmentally sensitive land that will be deed restricted from development forever." At a cost of just under $4 million."
It must remain a golf course for at least five years and should the owners ever want to sell, Cherry Hill gets first chance to buy.
Another agreement, this one with affordable housing advocates, settles a 30-year dispute over building 54 new housing units and protects Cherry Hill from future litigation on that front.
