Police: 2 Injured In New Castle, Delaware Crash

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – Delaware State Police say two people were injured in a crash in New Castle.

Police say it happened at about 3:36 p.m. Thursday.

According to police, a Mercedes Benz was traveling in an eastbound direction on DE Rt. 273 (Christiana Road) just east of DE SR1 in New Castle. Police say for an unknown reason, the vehicle began to travel in a northeast direction and entered the center median of the roadway where it struck a road sign.

According to police, the vehicle then entered the westbound lanes of DE Rt. 273, where it struck the left side of a box truck. Police say the truck then overturned onto its right hand side and came to rest in the roadway.

Police say the Mercedes Benz rotated counter-clockwise and traveled in a south east direction before coming to rest in a ditch.

According to police, the driver of the Mercedes Benz was trapped in his vehicle and extricated. Police say he and an 11-year-old female passenger were taken to the Christiana Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

All lanes of DE Rt. 273 were closed for about two and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
