Lottery Ticket Worth $2 Million Sold At Lucky Delaware County Store

By Suzanne Monaghan

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (CBS) – They say lightning doesn't strike in the same place twice, but it has struck three times at a beer distributor in Delaware County. The store has sold three winning Powerball lottery tickets, worth at least a million dollars each, over the past three years.

Domestic & Imported Beverages in Glen Mills got the phone call Monday morning, letting them know they had sold a winning Powerball with Power Play ticket worth $2-million on July 4.

"We're floored by it. It's shocking," says Co-owner Matt Christ. "You never expect to get those phone calls. Especially this one. It wasn't a big jackpot so there wasn't a million people buying tickets. This one just came out of the blue."

Christ says another winning ticket, worth $1-million, was sold at the store in February. Before that, he says his store sold a million dollar winning ticket in August 2012.

"Slowly but surely people are coming in," Christ says, "and they're just floored and amazed that we've sold another one."

Christ is hoping the winner is one of his local customers.

"There are only a few people who play Powerball with Power Play," he says, "so it can only be about one of thirty or forty people."

The store will earn a $10,000 bonus for selling this latest winning ticket.

So far this fiscal year, the Pennsylvania Lottery has awarded nearly $84-million in prizes to winners in Delaware County.
