Pete Mackanin To Stay Phillies Interim Manager For Remainder Of Season

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- When Ryne Sandberg resigned from his post as manager of the Phillies, the organization and the coaching staff was caught off-guard. Ruben Amaro Jr. announced at the resignation press conference that third-base coach Pete Mackanin would take over for Sandberg as interim manager.

The Phillies announced on Tuesday that Mackanin would remain in that role for the remainder of the season.

When Mackanin was named interim manager, Amaro stated that he was unsure about how long Mackanin would remain in that role, because the organization had no time to prepare for Sandberg's departure and Mackanin was loyal enough to the team to accept the position on short notice.
