Woman Struck, Killed By Train North Of Philadelphia

AMBLER, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a woman was struck and killed by a train in suburban Philadelphia.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority said the woman was struck by a Regional Rail Train near the Ambler station in Montgomery County shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday.

A SEPTA spokesman said the engineer of the train heading from Doylestown toward Philadelphia saw the woman in restricted track area just north of the station. The spokesman said the engineer applied the emergency brakes, but there wasn't enough time for the train to stop.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name and age wasn't immediately released. Passengers were walked to the station and placed on shuttle buses to reach their destinations.
