PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — With the seventh pick in the first round of the NHL Draft, the Flyers selected defenseman Ivan Provorov.

The Flyers had a clear need on defense and opted to address that with the selection of Provorov.

Last season, he lead all rookies and was fourth among defensemen in the Western Hockey League recording 61 points. He advanced to the WHL Championship Series with Brandon, but lost to Kelowna.

The Flyers traded their 29th and 61st picks to the Toronto Maple Leafs for the 24th pick. With the 24th pick, the Flyers selected Travis Konecny.
