YouTube hopes to expand its role in new media journalism. The video-sharing site has launched a service called YouTube Newswire in partnership with social news agency Storyful which will produce a verified feed of the day's most newsworthy events be published to YouTube.

YouTube Newswire will feature regional and global feeds and will be available online, on Twitter, and as an email newsletter.

Storyful has a similar partnership with Facebook. Last year the social giant launched FB Newswire to vet and curate user-generated content across the network.
