ABERDEEN, UK (CBS) – Indulging your chocolate cravings could turn out to be a good thing.

A new study says that eating up to 100 grams of chocolate every day could lower your risk of heart disease and stroke.

The research, which was conducted by multiple universities in the UK, looked at about 21,000 adults who participated in the EPIC-Norfolk study, which tracks the impact of diet on the health of men and women using questionnaires.

“Our study concludes that cumulative evidence suggests higher chocolate intake is associated with a lower risk of future cardiovascular events,” says Professor Phyo Myint, of the School of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Aberdeen, on the university’s website.

Researchers say those who ate chocolate had an 11% reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and a 23% reduced risk of stroke.

The research is published in the journal Heart.
