Philadelphia Police And Youth From Around The City Talk About What Can Be Done To Strengthen Community Relations

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police are talking with youth from around the city about what can be done to improve community relations.

During a police and youth forum Wednesday at City Hall, both sides came together to discuss how they can make their plans for a better future a reality.

"These recommendations are based off of over 200 youth all focusing on police and community and how they can strengthen their relations with each other."

The youth want the police to do things like get out of their patrol cars and interact with them.

"The cops need to communicate with the young people in the area, we want them to have a better view of us."

The officers want youth to have an open mind about the police.

"They only view us by what's shown on social media, so they don't have an opportunity to really deal with us."

Police officials say these talks are a step in the right direction and they are taking the recommendations to heart.
