Staff And Students Will Be Searched Today At South Jersey School After Threatening Phone Call

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (CBS) --- There are calls for increased security after a threatening phone call against Harrington Middle School in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.

The call was one of several made to schools in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and officials are taking precautions today.

Officials at Harrington Middle School received the threat around 9pm Monday night. Police quickly searched the area and the school grounds, as well as the Middle School, and they found nothing concerning.

As a precaution, police will be on scene all day long today. Students and staff will be searched before entering the school.

Officials are asking that students only bring essential items to school to expedite the process.

The threat made here at Harrington Middle School is one of several made not only in New Jersey yesterday, but in Pennsylvania as well.

In Montgomery County, Police say a threatening phone call was made to the main office of Simmons Elementary school in Horsham, PA yesterday morning.

After the threat was made the Hatboro-Horsham School District sent out an email message that stated that Hatboro-Horsham High School and Simmons Elementary School were in lockdown.

Police found nothing during a sweep, and classes resumed.

Anyone with any information about the threatening phone calls are asked to call police.
