Mandatory Registration Opens For Drivers Bringing Vehicles To Pope Francis' Visit

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If your church is planning a trip to Philadelphia for the pope's visit this fall, you'll need register if you want a parking place.

Parking registration is now underway for commercial vehicles of all sizes in connection with the World Meeting of Families. Bill Maulsby, CEO of "Go Ground," the company in charge of those transportation logistics, says commercial vehicle operators must sign up online, providing proof they have a license, insurance, and a good driving record, then pay a fee to secure a parking space in Philadelphia.

"We are talking church vans, we're talking commercial buses, RVs, mini buses, as well as commercial  passenger vans," he says, "so if a church has a bus or a church as a commercial van they use, they will also need to be registered."

He expects up to 5,000 such vehicles will need parking places during Pope Francis' visit to Philadelphia.  Maulsby says his company will assist drivers into town and into their reserved spot.   Prices vary depending on the number of vehicles and the length of stay.

Bus operators must sign up at wmof.goground.com by July 31st.
