Cumberland County SPCA: Dog Recovering After Being Stabbed In The Neck

BRIDGETON, NJ (CBS) – A Cumberland County man has reportedly been arrested in connection with a horrible case of animal cruelty.

On Sunday, June 7th, Bridgeton police received a call from a resident on Cedar Street. That woman told officers her son had stabbed her dog.

Police responded to the scene, where they found a dog with substantial neck wounds. The 3-5 year old pitbull, named Trina, was taken to the Cumberland County SPCA, where she underwent surgery to repair her trachea and surrounding tissue. Unfortunately, Trina suffered complications and had to undergo a second surgery.

As of Tuesday, Trina remained in an unnamed veterinary hospital in stable condition, where the CCSPCA says she's "captured the hearts of the veterinary staff with her sweet personality."

After Trina is released, she'll be placed in a foster home to recover. In the meantime, the CCSPCA is reaching out to the public for help with Trina's medical care. Anyone who wishes to donate can visit: www.cumberlandcountyspca.org.

The woman's son was apparently arrested at the scene and charged with a weapons offense. Charges of animal cruelty are reportedly pending.
