Opera Philadelphia Hosting Charlie Parker's YARDBIRD Social Media Preview Night

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Ahead of the world premiere of Charlie Parker's YARDBIRD, Opera Philadelphia is hosting social media night during the final dress rehearsal.
Opera Philadelphia has selected a group of social media influencers to participate in the final dress rehearsal of Charlie Parker's YARDBIRD.
President David Devan says the opera is the original multi-media experience.
"We've got a whole bunch of things going on," he says. "We've got orchestra, spoken word, plays, sets, stages chorus, dance - all happening simultaneously."
It's an effort to reach a younger generation and introduce them to opera.
"I think social media has a lot of potential for us," Devan says. "First of all, it can change perception. I think second, it can attract a wider demographic"
The audience will live tweet the final dress rehearsal of Charlie Parker's YARDBIRD before its Friday premiere.
"Our opera explores his music world as if he had the tools available to him from our world," Devan explains. "It deals with an iconic American in a real honest and beautiful way"
