It's National Leave The Office Early Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Here's a reason to smile on Tuesday: It's National Leave the Office Early Day.

The idea is to get things done in less time and have the rest of the day to spend with family and friends.

It's not an official national holiday, so you should check and see if your company observes it…otherwise you might not have a job to come back to!

According to the website Days of the Year, the holiday was started by a specialist in employee productivity who found that Americans worked an average of 49 hours a week -- about 350 more hours a year than most Europeans.

Leave the Office Early Day "is an incentive for employees to complete tasks before schedule, making a conscious effort to increase their efficiency and productivity so they can go home sooner," Days of the Year explains.
